Elphinstone Group is an innovative and enterprising privately owned Scottish group of companies that initiate and manage high quality residential and commercial developments. The group acquired the former Strathclyde Regional Council buildings sited at Charing Cross, Glasgow, in order to demolish and rebuild on this significant city centre site.
Prior to the demolition of the Strathclyde Regional Council buildings on the site, Elphinstone Group, working with consultants Liddell Thomson and RMJM, sought to mark the end of an era and the start of new development by commissioning artist Jim Buckley to subtly change and animate the principal facades.
The resulting work, titled "Fade", draws attention to imminent change, briefly altering our perceptions of the site, illuminating the building with waves of light, continually changing colour over five nights, then vanishing forever.
