The role of RMJM's Art Commissioning comprises three principal strands of activity:

  • art commissioning within RMJM's architectural and landscape projects in the UK and internationally;
  • art commissioning for other organisations, for example, cultural and educational institutions, the residential sector, health sector and local government;
  • the development and management of complementary activities such as education programmes, publishing, conferences and events.

We have a flexible approach to ensure the best response to any brief.  Our services include the following:

Curatorial approach - art commissioning

We will assess a client's project to identify its central ideas and the broadest possible range of commissioning opportunities for artists.  This will then be developed into one or a series of artists' briefs.  Early in the process we will discuss appropriate artforms and artists with clients.

Curatorial approach - education and interpretation

Many projects will include an education and interpretation programme and we are creative in our approach to this strand of activity.  For example, projects can involve art and architecture students or a client's employees, a building's future users or local communities.

Project Management

We have a strong and rigorous approach to the search for and appointment of artists, managing budgets, designing and implementing contractual arrangements for commissioned artists and co-ordinating the realisation process.

Fundraising

RMJM Art Commissioning has extensive experience in fundraising, with a wide variety of funding bodies including arts councils, local government, trusts, foundations and private sector sponsors.  Not only can we help our clients identify the most appropriate organisations to approach for funding, but we can also prepare funding applications.

Press and Publicity

Uniquely RMJM Art Commissioning has specialist press and publicity staff who can raise the profile of our arts projects nationally and internationally.  Focused, structured programmes of talks, events and media relations can be developed to support our work.
